This exhibit will highlight Fred Beckey's cartographical skills and sketches, a talent often overshadowed by his legendary climbing reputation.

On display will be hand-drawn climbing topos of his First Ascents of various North American rock climbs, and several of his published maps of Northwest regions.

The exhibit narratives will trace Fred Beckey’s interest in cartography back to his childhood, when he would isolate himself and create maps of the world, and his time as a Boy Scout, where his mapping skills impressed his leaders.

Adjacent to his guide books, Fred Beckey created maps and topos to share geographical insights, route information, and access shortcuts with other hikers and climbers.
